SM-Träningsdag

On Sunday the 4th, a group of us headed north to do some training in SM long/relay terrain for 2012.
The maps we ran on were around Hofors, and the weather was cold but clear.

The first exercise was a hat relay centered around a mossy hilltop. For this relay, our group of twelve split into six teams and each team got a truly ugly orange hat with a superhero’s name written on it. Along with this hideous headwear, we each had a map with 10 controls spaced around our start location, like the numbers on a clock (if a clock had only 10 hours). The starting runner on the team first put the hat at one of the locations. When that first runner returned, the second runner had to go out to the find the hat, and then move it to the next control clockwise on the course before coming back to tag off again. In this manner we navigated the whole circle, and had a great time cheering on our teammates as they climbed back to our pinnacle changeover zone. The woods were rocky in places, but the hardest part was running back up to the top of the hill after placing the hat. Luckily, the talking and cheering of those waiting made it easier to find your way back!

The first exercise was clearly designed to make us all hungry for lunch! The next stop was the HAIF clubhouse where we heated up some delicious soup and tried to watch the ski races on a small cellphone screen. As we were finishing lunch, we could see snow starting to come down outside. Better than rain!

After lunch, we ran one more training in the beautiful woods adjacent to the clubhouse. Luckily, before we started Inga noticed that all the boulders were actually yellow on the map, making them look like small clearings. These woods were mostly open with fantastic visibility. The ground was very soft and squishy and I struggled to climb up the last hill. We finished just as the woods were getting too dark to see but while there was still time to see the marvelous sunset. It was a great day and the weather was as good as it gets for December! Thank you to everyone who organized this trip!
