Yet another successful international orienteer is reinforcing the already strong group of girls at OK Linné this season.
Originally from Ottawa, Canada, Emily Kemp has been living and studying in St Etienne, France since 2010 where she has been training with the French training group, le Pôle France, along with studying for a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. Her plan is to spend extended periods of time in Uppsala until she can find a way to move here permanently.

- I go back to France the 6th of May for exams. During the summer I will train for WOC in Finland, run the Nordic Tour and then spend my time in France until WOC. After that I'll come back to Uppsala for the end of the fall season.

We sit down to talk with Emily at the clubhouse as a social gathering for the women in Linné is taking place. She tells us that she is a little bit tired from travelling as she arrived only the day before, but that she is happy to be back in Uppsala. For those of you who met Emily here in Uppsala last year, you will remember that she was also here a short period last spring around Tiomila. She then went back to France to continue studying, with the goal of returning to Sweden once she could find a way to continue her studies in Uppsala.

- Ever since 2008 when I was running at JWOC in Sweden I've wanted to come back and spend some time orienteering in Sweden!

Emily started orienteering when she was 8 years old. Her father read about orienteering in a brochure and then decided to bring Emily along with her older brother and her younger sister to an event to try the sport.
- My dad didn’t want us to do the beginners course since he thought it would be too easy and we were completely lost that first time. We continued to go to orienteering events and I was always running with my brother to start with until I eventually started to run on my own.

After that it didn't take long for Emily to produce good results and she often ran up classes. Emily has participated 5 times at JWOC and once at WOC in 2011 when she ran both JWOC and WOC in the same summer.
- After that I decided I didn't want to do that the following year as I found it difficult to re-motivate myself and keep training to be in good shape for another World Champs, so in 2012 I was only running JWOC which was much better.

JWOC 2012 was also very successful for Emily where she won the bronze medal at the long distance.
- Running towards the finish I didn't think it would be quite enough for such a good result and I was a bit surprised thinking to myself, "what has everybody else been up to in the forest?"

When we start talking about her thoughts about this year and the upcoming season she is very excited.
- I am very happy with my training this winter and I haven't had any problems with injuries which I had at times last year. For this semester I also decided to study as a part-time student, so I have more time to sleep and train. Now I am excited to see what I can do first year as a "real senior.

She doesn't have any outspoken goals for WOC this year but she is aiming for a top 40 result in the World Cup overall.

Emily is pleased with her decision to move to France after being invited during a training camp in Canada 2009 where she met the French national team. Her training transformed as she moved to France and she feels her skills developed significantly. She has been receiving guidance from Thierry Gueorgiou and she points out that he also has been playing a very important role in taking care of her when she moved from Canada to France.
- But although I've spent more than 2 years in France I have only just been able to visit Paris. I've seen every other corner of France though (that is mapped of course).

When we ask her the question as to what language she thinks in when orienteering she is quick with her reply. - French! If I'd make a mistake it would be a bad word in French that would come out as well she says with a big smile.

Once again we wish to say welcome to OK Linné Emily!
